State and federal legislators need to push insurance companies to cover full in-patient treatment to give people their best chance at beating addiction. The Orleans County Sheriff’s Office has secured funding for Vivitrol — an antidote which prevents relapses of drug abuse and alcoholism for a month. The inmate has to be clean 14 days before Vivitrol is administered, and is held for another 14 days before being released. At that point, the inmate is sent to a counselor to continue the program.
